Registered Nurse

Alberta Health Services’ Pediatric Emergency program, based in Edmonton, AB, is currently accepting applications for the position of Registered Nurse. This program specializes in providing prompt, expert medical care to children in emergency situations, addressing the specific healthcare needs of pediatric patients within hospital emergency departments.

Supported by a team of skilled professionals, the program ensures a child-friendly, supportive environment with rapid assessment and treatment. Successful candidates will be expected to begin work immediately.

Requirements:

  • Language: Proficiency in English is required.
  • Education: Must be registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Experience: Recent nursing experience in a tertiary/urban setting is necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, assist in lifting, transporting, and positioning patients.
  • Capable of handling equipment that requires bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling.

Additional Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
  • A minimum of 1 year of emergency nursing experience or 2 years of medical/surgical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Recent critical care experience within the last 2 years.
  • Certifications in ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP (3 of 6 required), Certified Emergency Nurse (CAN or CNE).
  • Proficiency in patient assessment, organization, leadership, communication, and care delivery.
  • Completion of CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1–4) and NextGenU Health Assessment courses.

  • Provide comprehensive nursing services to patients, families, and communities while ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Use critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making in nursing processes, as well as offer education, counseling, and advocacy for patients and families.
  • Play a leadership role in promoting an integrated, holistic approach to patient care and health promotion.
  • Deliver safe, high-quality patient and family-centered care, aligning with Alberta Health Services’ values and vision.
